Intumescent Fire Protection Coating

Thin, Elegant, and Highly Effective Passive Fire Protection

Intumescent coatings represent the most sophisticated and aesthetically versatile form of passive fire protection available today. Applied as a thin decorative paint, these coatings react dramatically when exposed to fire — expanding up to 50 times their original thickness to form a thick, insulating char layer that protects underlying structural steel from heat.

How Intumescent Coatings Work

Intumescent coatings contain a blend of chemicals that react when exposed to temperatures above approximately 200°C. This reaction causes the coating to expand (intumesce) and form a low-density, carbonaceous char. This char layer acts as an effective thermal insulator, slowing the transfer of heat to the steel beneath and maintaining structural integrity for the required fire resistance period.

Key Benefits
  • Applied as a thin coat — maintains architectural aesthetics
  • Available in a wide range of colors and finishes
  • Provides 30, 60, 90, and 120-minute fire resistance ratings
  • Suitable for interior and exterior applications
  • Fast application — reduces construction time
  • Compatible with a wide range of topcoats for corrosion protection
Applications
  • Exposed structural steelwork in commercial and public buildings
  • Shopping malls, airports, and stadiums
  • Industrial buildings requiring aesthetic fire protection
  • Petrochemical facilities and process plants
  • Car parks and multi-storey structures
Quality & Compliance

All intumescent coating applications are carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's application guidelines and relevant fire testing standards (BS 476, EN 13381). Dry film thickness is measured and recorded at every stage to ensure the applied coating delivers the specified fire resistance rating.
